Organizing and Empowering Small Enterprises

Background

"Everyone has the right to work, to free choice of employment, to just and favorable conditions of work and to protection against unemployment {…}."Everyone has the right to form and to join trade unions for the protection of his interests" [Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948].

A growing number of small enterprises and businesses in the Arab community close down each year because they are no longer competitive. The sector lacks any basic support from the government. For example, although recently it constructed industrial parks throughout the country, the government has ignored the needs of Arab localities. This sector also lacks internal organization and representatation.

The Project

The proposed program is designed to respond to small enterprise needs by organizing them and training them to compete in alternative markets. It also will establish innovative projects, including economic incubators and special action plans, introducing high-tech initiatives that the Arab sector presently lacks and that can benefit the community in many ways.
